From the reviews
I started Taekwondo here almost 8 years ago, and since the first day I have always looked forward to each and every class. The instructors are always willing to help anyone, and devote hours on end to make sure everyone improves. Here, everyone is a big family - we all take care of each other, not matter what happens.
When I signed my children up for Taekwondo nearly two years ago, I hoped that they would benefit from a program that emphasizes self-control, perseverance, and focus. What I didn't expect is that my children would improve upon these skills and also experience so much more! The program at Jae H.
I have two children currently enrolled at the Jae H. Kim Taekwon-do Institute in Ashland. My 14-year-old son has been taking classes for more than six years and is a 2nd Dan Black Belt, while my eight-year-old daughter just started attending classes about six months ago. The program at Jae H.
My son has been attending taekwondo lessons here and we’ve had a great experience. The instructors are fantastic with kids — they know how to keep them motivated while still being patient and supportive. I really appreciate how they have a clear plan to help kids grow step by step, both in skill and confidence.
Your first taekwondo class at Jae H Kim Tae Kwon DO Institute
Nervous about walking into a taekwondo school for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, and kicks with a partner or on pads — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: loose athletic wear you can move in (or a dobok if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the floor. What to bring: water and a positive attitude — many schools lend a loaner dobok for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll get your own dobok and belt, and sparring gear (mouthguard, headgear, and guards) once you begin sparring. Sparring eases in gradually, once your fundamentals and forms are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the instructor. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
