Taekwondo programs, and where to train each

"Taekwondo class" isn't one thing. One school down the street runs a gentle beginners class where nobody expects you to spar; another has kids' classes after school, an adults class at night, forms (poomsae) practice, sparring on weekends, a demo team, and one-on-one private lessons in between. The program decides who the class is for and what a session looks like — kicks and forms, controlled sparring in gear, or working toward the next belt — so it's the first thing worth sorting out before you walk in. Each program below explains what it actually is and who it tends to suit, then links to schools nationwide that run it, with maps and state-by-state lists. Brand new? Start with taekwondo for beginners, then find a school with a free trial or intro class to try one.

The Olympic (WT) style of the sport — fast, high, electronically scored kicks; the unique hook that makes taekwondo a full Olympic sport.

Not sure which class to start with?

If you've never trained before, an adult or kids class is the kind way in — technique first, at a pace that expects newcomers. Little ones? Little Dragons is built for ages three to six, and teens have their own classes. Curious about the signature side of taekwondo? Poomsae & forms are the patterns, sparring is controlled point fighting in gear, and Olympic sparring is the Olympic sport. Want to perform? A demo team does demonstrations and board-breaking. Training for confidence and safety? Self-defense classes focus there, and belt testing marks each step of the journey. Want to learn fast or train privately? Private lessons are one-on-one with an instructor. Whatever you pick, all ages and all levels are welcome — you don't need to be fit or flexible to start, and it's always fine to rest when you need to.
