Taekwondo Schools by the Numbers, 2026
We mapped every taekwondo school in America — 4,346 schools with 203,812 customer reviews between them. Here's what the data says: how much classes actually cost, which states have the most schools per resident, where the taekwondo capitals are, which franchises run the most locations, and what else these schools teach under one roof. How much does taekwondo cost a month? The one-line answer
The most-asked question about the sport, answered from the 179 schools in the directory that publicly post a price: membership is about $99 a month, with most schools landing between $50 and $175. The full picture — price bands, what's driving the spread, and the state-by-state index — is on the Taekwondo Class Cost Index.
Which states have the most taekwondo schools per capita?
Nationally there are about 12.8 taekwondo schools per million residents. The per-capita crown goes to New Jersey at 24.6 schools per million — 234 schools for a state of 9.5 million people — with Connecticut at 19 and Illinois at 16.6 close behind. Taekwondo clusters where martial-arts culture runs deep, not simply where the most people live — which is why the gap between the top and bottom of this table is worth a look before you go hunting for your first school. At the other end, West Virginia has just 3.4 per million.

What else do taekwondo schools teach?
Taekwondo schools rarely teach just taekwondo — 73.6% also train at least one other martial art under the same roof, an average of 2.1 other disciplines each. The most common companions: Self-Defense (62.7%), Karate (39.2%), Kickboxing (18.2%), Jiu-Jitsu (12.6%). That's the real shape of the American taekwondo school — often a full multi-art dojang, not a single-style studio.
