From the reviews
My family loves Powell Martial Arts. Mr. W is a great teacher. My oldest son came here back when it was Village Taekwondo at a different location; and when my youngest wanted to learn Taekwondo we made sure to bring him to the same place so he could learn with Mr. W too. Even my husband takes classes here and loves it.
What an excellent place to take your family to learn martial arts. Their instructors are caring, attentive, and looking to improve your child's focus & attitude, all while having fun. It's a great place if you are looking to make a difference in your child's life!
Our son really enjoys learning taekwondo. He enjoys all of his instructors. We recommend Martial Arts in Powell for new and experienced students
My daughter, wife and I have been attending Powell Martial Arts (formerly Village Taekwondo) for 3 years. We started our daughter right before she turned 6 as we wanted to get her into a new activity. Very soon after, Mr. Weislogel offered a parent class once a week to try it out.
Your first taekwondo class at Martial Arts in Powell
Nervous about walking into a taekwondo school for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, and kicks with a partner or on pads — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: loose athletic wear you can move in (or a dobok if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the floor. What to bring: water and a positive attitude — many schools lend a loaner dobok for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll get your own dobok and belt, and sparring gear (mouthguard, headgear, and guards) once you begin sparring. Sparring eases in gradually, once your fundamentals and forms are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the instructor. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
