From the reviews
We have been with Okito for about six years. Everyone who works there is caring and helpful. They also make sure to the kids understand that respect, perseverance, and responsibility is needed in life. My daughter loves the after school program. They help with homework and keep the students safe.
We have been apart of the Okito America Family now since August 2023. We love our main instructor, Mr. Walker, and enjoy his style of teaching. We are thankful for the values that are taught as our children are understanding the need for respect, courtesy, integrity, self-control, and indomitable spirit.
We moved to Gainesville July 2025; Tyler was the new kid in town, so it was very important that he was in a program that not only helped him to make new friends, but to be part of the local community.
Before registering my daughter at Okito, I toured several other after school options and none could compare. I love that the size isn't overwhelming, that there is an emphasis on character building, learning, and play, strengthening my child's mind, body, and confidence. It feels safe and kind.
Your first taekwondo class at Okito America (Archer Rd)
Nervous about walking into a taekwondo school for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, and kicks with a partner or on pads — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: loose athletic wear you can move in (or a dobok if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the floor. What to bring: water and a positive attitude — many schools lend a loaner dobok for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll get your own dobok and belt, and sparring gear (mouthguard, headgear, and guards) once you begin sparring. Sparring eases in gradually, once your fundamentals and forms are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the instructor. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
