We visited Tiger Rock on a "Bring a Friend" night as a trial experience. My husband and I had already decided after observation, that we were signing up our son whether he wanted to or not because we felt he needing something a bit more social in his life that would keep him active as well.
I absolutely can not say enough about this school! My children have been attending for 5 years now. This is our second school, and right from the beginning, I was thoroughly impressed. At the time, one had just turned 8, and the other was 10.
Unbelievable commitment to the development of the individual. My nephew was 9, struggling with esteem - just a little guy. He is 12 and testing for his Black Belt 3rd degree in the next 12 months, and is so proud. A good friend, a good citizen!
When we prayed about where to enroll the Chidoes (Brown's term of endearment for "children" pronounced "chee- does" like Cheetos with a "d"😉), we prayed for a place where the instructors' characters would also be a good influence on them.

What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, and kicks with a partner or on pads — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: loose athletic wear you can move in (or a dobok if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the floor. What to bring: water and a positive attitude — many schools lend a loaner dobok for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll get your own dobok and belt, and sparring gear (mouthguard, headgear, and guards) once you begin sparring.
