From the reviews

My 6 year old daughter has been going to Woori a few months now and out of all her extracurricular activities she’s tried (and she has tried a lot… ballet, tennis, tap, soccer, gymnastics and more) she loves Taekwondo the most! Plus Master Jang and the instructors are so great with the kids.

The very first trial classes, I knew this is the place I was looking for. I trained taekwondo in Korea and certified black belt. I am not a master but know well enough how Taekwondo effect life positive way, so always want to teach my kid Taekwondo one day and looking for the right place.

★★★★★ — Park, Apr 2021

Woori is more than a Taekwondo academy, we are a family. I have four daughters, and three are black belts. I enjoy their journey and I continue to be excited of what they will continue to learn and persevere. Master Jang is an amazing master; he is patient, kind, understanding but overall passionate.

★★★★★ — Carmen, Jun 2020

Master Jang is a very good teacher and is very patient with the kids. Taekwondo has taught my son discipline and focus, is great for self confidence. Benjamin loves coming to class and will continue to come.

Your first taekwondo class at Woori Taekwondo & Hapkido Academy Chicago

Nervous about walking into a taekwondo school for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, and kicks with a partner or on pads — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: loose athletic wear you can move in (or a dobok if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the floor. What to bring: water and a positive attitude — many schools lend a loaner dobok for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll get your own dobok and belt, and sparring gear (mouthguard, headgear, and guards) once you begin sparring. Sparring eases in gradually, once your fundamentals and forms are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the instructor. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.

Taekwondo is a martial art and a contact sport. Ease in, listen to your instructors, and if you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them before class and check with a doctor if you're unsure.
