From the reviews
Like many parents, I didn't know much about choosing a martial arts instructor. Friends who knew more pointed us to Master Hafez, some focusing on his skill as instructor and others highlighting the value of Kuk Sool as a discipline. But their advice served mostly to ratify our choice based on proximity.
I was skeptical in putting my high energy son in anything that he had to behave in lol. He started a month ago has already got a stripe on his belt. The teacher has a very calming nature about him but at the same time when he dose speak he said not right. Or no thank you an like so.e magic breath the kids just listen.
My child has been attending for over six months now, and the transformation has been incredible. Master Hafez is fantastic—he strikes the perfect balance between discipline and encouragement. Even as a 'non-athletic' kid, my child is absolutely thriving and genuinely looks forward to every single session.
This place is wonderful! It is small enough that the teacher can effectively manage the classes, but big enough for my son (5.5) to get social interactions with other kids. Master Hafez is great with kids, and i find it quite different from the "crazy and loud" class my son attended at a different studio in the past.
Your first taekwondo class at Redwood City Martial Arts
Nervous about walking into a taekwondo school for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, and kicks with a partner or on pads — not hard sparring. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: loose athletic wear you can move in (or a dobok if you have one); you'll train barefoot on the floor. What to bring: water and a positive attitude — many schools lend a loaner dobok for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll get your own dobok and belt, and sparring gear (mouthguard, headgear, and guards) once you begin sparring. Sparring eases in gradually, once your fundamentals and forms are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the instructor. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
